Why Homesteading?

Homesteading has become a cherished way of life for our family, embodying values of self-sufficiency, better health, and the preservation of essential skills. In an increasingly fast-paced world, we find joy and satisfaction in returning to our roots. There’s something reassuring about growing our own food and knowing exactly where it comes from.

Self-sufficiency is not just a goal; it’s a mindset that empowers us. By cultivating our vegetables, raising chickens for eggs and meat, and preserving our food, we have developed a deeper connection to our food. This practice is giving us the freedom from relying on grocery stores to supply our food sources.

Homesteading has also significantly improved our health. Fresh food is not only more nutritious but also tastes better than anything from the store. By growing and raising our own food, we can avoid chemicals that are used on and in foods that are commercially grown. We have noticed since we began to eat more from scratch and homegrown meals, we have had improvements in how we feel overall.

Lastly, preserving traditional skills, like sewing, baking, and woodworking, adds layers of richness to our lives. They connect us to past generations and instill a sense of accomplishment. Homesteading, for us, is a journey toward a more fulfilling existence, filled with love for nature, our family, our community, and our faith.
